HISD Student Congress |
Houston Independent School District
Students Collaborate their ideas |
HISD Student Congress is like Student Council but for all of HISD schools. We make and change amendments for the better of all schools. We have committee within the Congress such as Financial, Advocacy, Political, etc.
Students identify problems such as bullying or teachers not having phones in the room, collaborate and make a change. Another example is that we are reaching out to AVID classes to inform them about the things we talk about at the meetings and getting them to sign petitions, get teachers support, and etc. to approach the situation locally and then spread the word to go regional. Also towards the beginning of the school year they started off by informing us about improvements they had done before and how we could do it again to encourage us to be a part of the Student Congress and now I am. In Alabama, November 1995, the Board of Education of the state of Alabama adopted a disclaimer to be attached to all biology books issued to its state about evolution. This was the first assignment I had for Physical Anthropology we had to find mistakes that the disclaimer had and correct it using evidence saying why it is wrong and why it should be the way you say it. I got a 100 on this assignment and felt great.
